1939 Swim Team
UNDEFEATED!! A school of dolphins achieved the goal, coveted by every swim team since the beginning of the tides. This was a record obtained through devotion, striving, humor, and Mickey Mouse (the mascot). This was a tremendous accomplishment, a first in the history of R.A. Long. The girls swam with unity and joy. No matter what the occasion, there was always a song to fit it. From a team of 27, six girls qualified for state Individually and as a team, and acquired 9th place. In district 4th place, was achieved by 17 girls, “It was fun, because you meet a lot of new people”, was the consensus of the team. Ms. Lancaster was impressed with the girls overall team spirit and as a whole the team did very well to place where they did. Per the girls, “What we liked best was the rooting for the team and wanting everyone to win more than we did ourselves.” This team did something that has not been repeated or duplicated since 1971.

1939 Swim Team
This group of young men managed to do something that no other swim team from R'A' Long has ever been able to duplicate. That is to have an undefeated season that culminated at the state championship meet. This team practiced and competed at the YMCA 20 yard pool because the high school pool wasn't completed until 1940. The mermen as they were called defeated the following teams, Stadium and Lincoln High schools of Tacoma, Aberdeen, Everett, Vancouver and Port Angeles. They earned every cup given as well as to take first place in four events and set two new state records at the state meet.
